Although photographers have long used manual techniques to alter their images, digital cameras and software applications such as Adobe Photoshop have made this process quicker, easier, and more accessible than ever before.

Whereas Faking It reveals the ways in which photographers — from the 1840s to 1990s — used the tools of their day to manipulate images, After Photoshop: Manipulated Photography in the Digital Age explores how artists use digital technology to alter photographic images in the 21st century.

* This exhibition is organized by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

Syd Barrett At Film Festival http://demo.lunartheme.com/stevecadey/syd-barrett-at-film-festival/ http://demo.lunartheme.com/stevecadey/syd-barrett-at-film-festival/#respond Wed, 27 Jan 2016 03:52:08 +0000 http://main.lunartheme.com/stevecadey/?p=5014 A series of films will be shown at this year’s Cambridge Film Festival to celebrate the life of late Pink Floyd icon Syd Barrett. Cambridge Live have teamed up with the Cambridge Film Trust for the event and will screen the documentary Get All That Ant which features stills and archive footage taken during the 60s and filmed in Barrett’s hometown of Cambridge, London and San Francisco.

The majority of footage has never been seen before and features live performances and stills featuring artists including Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones, The Doors and Donovan.

Filmmaker Anthony Stern says:

“The film came about after a diagnosis of Parkinson’s encouraged me to make sense of the last 50 years of my life. Delving through my cellar, I found suitcases full of tapes, film reels and over 7000 still photographs from the period 1963-1970.

This film is a homage to that time, capturing the dreams, memories and reflections that sprung from a moment when we really thought we could change the world. Fifty years on, I’m starting to think these values are starting to reemerge.”

American post-rock band Tortoise extend their European trek in support of latest album “The Catastrophist”. Tortoise have added more European tour dates over the coming months. The American post-rock band announced their spring trek in April in support of latest album The Catastrophist – with further dates planned through the year.

The band also announced that they’ve rescheduled their London headline show from the Electric Ballroom on July 7 to London’s Dome at Tufnell Park on November 15. Do you want to see Dance and Electronic artists live in concert but it’s sold out? Dance and Electronic performers will visit the UK in 2016 on various dates. Make sure you buy your Dance and Electronic tickets here to avoid disappointment. Alternatively if you have tickets to sell for any of the tour dates then you’re in the right place as GET ME IN! is the marketplace for true fans. The best time to enjoy a music festival is definitely the summer and Europe offers each year thousands of summer music festivals. We have selected for you the top 15 summer music festivals in Europe. From Secret Garden Party in the UK to Ibiza Closing Parties, discover the best music festivals in Europe and be prepared to live unique experiences. There is so much to discover in Europe!

America is now flush with dance festivals, but that’s nothing new for Europe. Dance music has been a cultural constant across the pond for decades, so it should come as no surprise that there are a staggering number of festivals catering to music fans who want to get down.

Fusion’s Kulturkosmos organizers now own its  former Soviet airfield site and run a commune there throughout the year. Often compared to a German Burning Man, Fusion is about far more than just music — welcoming the more than 70,000 attendees lucky enough to obtain a ticket into a mesmerizing world of art, performance and self-expression. Within the shelter of the Garden, where the dogs of society’s howl is inaudible, we are exploring the more positive visual imagery.

The difference is that Glastonbury has all the best aspects of being at a festival in one astonishing bundle.

It’s like going to another country, a hip and thrilling Brigadoon that appears every year or so. Coming to Glastonbury involves a fair amount of travel, and probably a queue to get in but, when you get past these impediments, you enter a huge tented city, a mini-state under canvas.

[Review] Seasons Of Your Day http://demo.lunartheme.com/stevecadey/review-seasons-of-your-day/ http://demo.lunartheme.com/stevecadey/review-seasons-of-your-day/#respond Mon, 11 Jan 2016 03:53:51 +0000 http://main.lunartheme.com/stevecadey/?p=5017 “Seasons of Your Day,” Mazzy Star’s first album since 1996, reunites the dreampop duo of Hope Sandoval and David Roback. Despite the long hiatus, not much has changed about the group’s sound: The new album highlights Sandoval’s wistful, melancholic vocals and Roback’s shoegazy guitars.

Nothing here is as catchy as the group’s 1993 hit “Fade Into You,” but Mazzy Star was never about churning out the hits. And on “Seasons of Your Day”, the duo picks up where it left off: creating moody, atmospheric music. Album opener “In the Kingdom” picks up with a sultry organ melody and Sandoval’s dreamy vocals, which elevate mundane moments — taking a train, walking outside — to watercolor movie scenes.

The rest of the album follows suit. I’ve Gotta Stop” conveys an ache both from Sandoval’s voice and Roback’s guitar tone, and the duo embraces sparse silences on the expansive “Does Someone Have Your Baby Now?” Sometimes, however, things get a little too dreamy. But even a few shapeless tracks can’t detract from the overall mood. “Seasons of Your Day” holds up beautifully next to Mazzy Star’s three previous albums.
